Gokarna is small town on the Western Coastal line having many beaches which serve as the best offbeat weekend destinations for trekking on the beach line. It is believed that Lord Shiva emerged from a Cow’s Ear (Mother Earth) here which is why it is called Gokarna. Located 550+ kms from Bangalore, 238kms to Mangalore and 150kms from Goa it is a place where weekends can be spent doing beach trekking and bouldering on the shores where the mystical water and sand kiss the coastal line together in form of white waves. Gokarna is a conflux between the Sayadhris and the Arabian Sea with hillocks surrounding the beach. Trekking on the coastal line is a beautiful as well as a challenging experience because of the humid conditions at the shore. The beaches around and slopes are virgin which makes it an offbeat weekend destination from Bangalore.

The morning at Gokarna gives a feeling of sacredness and spiritualism to the untouched place and also a thrill with the waves on the beach. Our experience will start from Paradise Beach to Kudle Beach covering Om Beach as well as Half Moon Beach.
A white wave surrendering to the shores below the hills Kudle Beach is where the beach trek starts. Kudle beach is almost 1km from one end to the other and will serve as our base camp for the weekend trek. It has an arch shape where the sun dwells to provide the most amazing beach experience. Kudle beach hike takes around 30mins from one corner to the other. This beach gives a sublime experience and playing volleyball in the morning makes for a perfect start to the whole journey where, we will overcome our fears and live the thrill with the majestic ways of nature.
Om beach is a km long hiking stretch from the end of kudle beach. The stretch is slightly inclined and goes straight towards Om Beach. On the sides of the trail there is a lot of wild thorny plants.
Half Moon Beach
There are two possible pathways to reach the half moon beach . one can either follow the regular route which will directly reach half moon beach or can take the offshore side route and hike on the boulders with the gentle sea waves lapping against it. This route has boulders which , at times need to be crossed by jumping. When the high crested waves humbly kneel down at the beach , the water brushes against the rocks and boulders and some choose to climb higher up on the boulders and move forward. There are several caves on the whole trail which can be climbed into.
If you have seen the movie ‘The Beach’ then you should make it to Paradise Beach. It is one of the peaceful beaches which is virgin and lacks human touch.
The sky turns a vibrant red towards the east. Only few are lucky enought to watch the sunrise from a hillock and a beach. If you go ahead further, you will find a desert beach called Nirvana Beach and Kumta.
