Gokarna is small town on the Western Coastal line having many beaches which serve as the best offbeat weekend destinations for trekking on the beach line. It is believed that Lord Shiva emerged from a Cow’s Ear (Mother Earth) here which is why it is called Gokarna. Located 550+ kms from Bangalore, 238kms to Mangalore and 150kms from Goa it is a place where weekends can be spent doing beach trekking and bouldering on the shores where the mystical water and sand kiss the coastal line together in form of white waves. Gokarna is a conflux between the Sayadhris and the Arabian Sea with hillocks surrounding the beach. Trekking on the coastal line is a beautiful as well as a challenging experience because of the humid conditions at the shore. The beaches around and slopes are virgin which makes it an offbeat weekend destination from Bangalore.

The overnight journey will be very exciting to make it to make it to the perfect destination for a weekend beach trek.

The morning at Gokarna gives a feeling of sacredness and spiritualism to the untouched place and also a thrill with the waves on the beach. Our experience will start from Paradise Beach to Kudle Beach covering Om Beach as well as Half Moon Beach.

A white wave surrendering to the shores below the hills Kudle Beach is where the beach trek starts. Kudle beach is almost 1km from one end to the other and will serve as our base camp for the weekend trek. It has an arch shape where the sun dwells to provide the most amazing beach experience. Kudle beach hike takes around 30mins from one corner to the other. This beach gives a sublime experience and playing volleyball in the morning makes for a perfect start to the whole journey where, we will overcome our fears and live the thrill with the majestic ways of nature.

Gokarna Beach Trek

Om beach is a km long hiking stretch from the end of kudle beach. The stretch is slightly inclined and goes straight towards Om Beach. On the sides of the trail there is a lot of wild thorny plants.

Gokarna Beach Trek
After going through the trail, the saluting waves of the sea can be witnessed. The beach is in shape of Om ॐ which embraces the spirituality of the place. On the right side of the beach there is medium size cliff climbing which we call as Shiva Climb also known for the panoramic view of the Sunset.

Gokarna Beach Trek
Beautiful things don’t come so easy and neither is the climb. There is a simple route which one can follow to reach the top of the cliff which goes through the water and another is where there is a technical small climb from the center. The beach also covers around 1 km in distance and is an ideal place to relax and later trek for the next beach.

Half Moon Beach

There are two possible pathways to reach the half moon beach . one can either follow the regular route which will directly reach half moon beach or can take the offshore side route and hike on the boulders with the gentle sea waves lapping against it. This route has boulders which , at times need to be crossed by jumping. When the high crested waves humbly kneel down at the beach , the water brushes against the rocks and boulders and some choose to climb higher up on the boulders and move forward. There are several caves on the whole trail which can be climbed into.

Gokarna Beach Trek
On the way towards the Half Moon Beach one encounters Rock of Peace, a huge rock in solitude. Many dolphins can be seen on the Arabian Coastline from this point. The trail from the rocks goes straight towards half moon beach . there is another jungle trail which can also be used to reach half moon beach. This way through dense coconut and palm tree is a refreshing experience in the humid conditions of the coastal line. The shape of the beach resembles that of a half-moon.

Gokarna Beach Trek
It is surrounded with hills and serves as a good place to relax for lunch. Further from here there are no food joints.

Paradise Beach

If you have seen the movie ‘The Beach’ then you should make it to Paradise Beach. It is one of the peaceful beaches which is virgin and lacks human touch.

Gokarna Beach Trek
The route to Paradise Beach goes from other end of Half-Moon Beach which splits into the rocky bouldering terrain at the shore and also deep dense plantations. There are several beautiful bouldering rocks on the way too which make it an even more challenging experience. Paradise Beach is surrounded by palm trees and has rocks on the shore which can be used for bouldering. Some wild paintings on the rocks which makes it a psychedelic experience for the the whole trip. This is one of the best beachs spread in solace on the shores of Western coastline.

Gokarna Beach Trek

The sky turns a vibrant red towards the east. Only few are lucky enought to watch the sunrise from a hillock and a beach. If you go ahead further, you will find a desert beach called Nirvana Beach and Kumta.

Making the most of the return journey to Bangalore, one can come across the might fort of 'Queen of Pepper' called Mirjan Fort. There are many stories associated with this mysterical fort and as per these tales, this fort is as old as 1200 AD. Though the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) confirm reconstruction of the fort around 1600 AD.
