DAY 0

This is going to be a midnight journey of 333kms from Bangalore to Kudremukh National Park. A brief summary about the trek and introduction among trekkers will be done. We advise trekkers to have light dinner before boarding. The overnight journey will be very exciting to make it to the perfect destination for trekking in Western Ghats.

DAY 1

The overnight journey takes you through the lush green towns of Karnataka. The route from Chikmagalur towards Kudremukh can be the most beautiful route that connects Kudremukh National Park. Kudremukh National Park is the second largest wildlife protected area. There is a sharp left turn from Forest Permission Hut towards the base camp from Balegal towards Mullodi. The road here is not suitable for driving unless it is a jeep which takes 45mins to reach our base camp. The jeep route is 6km long surrounded by a small village of coffee estates and a waterfall providing a thrilling off-roading experience.

Kudremukh
The base camp has panoramic 360 degree view of various peaks of Kudremukh National Park with Somavati River which has the purest form of water in Karnataka. We reach here early morning, freshen up, pack our lunches for the hike and have the most amazing local breakfast. The coffee made from the freshly ground coffee beans is refreshing after the off-road jeep ride. The ideal time to start the hike for the kudremukh peak which is 11kms away from the base camp is early morning.

The trail from the base camp passes through the tropical rain forests of Western Ghats with rise in the inclination too. There are 10 water streams that pass throughout the trail.

Kudremukh
Some of them even get over flooded with water during monsoon. In the beginning of the trail from home stay the peak on the left side is known as Durgadabba and the one on the right side is known as Kumbadokano. A peak that resembles a cow’s face is the Gomukh peak and can be seen on the beginning of the trail. After crossing the first set of the forest area spend some time at the peace tree which gives a breathtaking view of the meadows far away and the surrounding peaks.

Kudremukh
The whole trail passes through the tropical rainforests and the meadows. There will be fresh water streams that can be used to refill water bottles to remain hydrated throughout the trek. The peaks on the sides get closer as you keep moving through the trail. There is a lush green meadow before the Lobo House from where the ascent starts towards the peak. On the sides there are Mango trees which are a source for shade as well as fruit. There is a steep rise in the ascent from Lobo House. Once the ascent is over, one comes across a new world of meadows of the Kudremukh National park that can make anyone forget the city and live here. Looking down one can see the lush green rain forests. The horse shaped quaint Kudremukh peak is visible to eyes from the zigzag point. Walk through the succession of rainforests and you will see the darkness inside these forests. Be careful with the plants they tend to have thorns.

Kudremukh
If you are lucky, you can see a deer and other wild animals. There is 30 feet high waterfall which is pictorially below the Kudremukh Peak.

Kudremukh
Listening to the sound of water makes you feel one with the nature and provides you the much required motivation and strength to walk through the mountains. Further 20 yards from the waterfall, a valley of rainforest can be encountered and on its rear right the mountain gets captured by the clouds. This can be a very beautiful sight specially when all the clouds are below you. A steep inclination on the zigzag trail will connect to the last trail that reaches the peak.

Kudremukh
The sound of water that will be heard is from the Kudremukh Waterfalls which is in opposite direction to the peak. This will be the last gradient to trek. On the right side, there is a dense forest and on the left , a sheer drop. On reaching the top you will feel that the world cannot get any better The fact that all the clouds are below your altitude captivates the moment. If the weather is clear spend some time on the peak else coming down early is more important than reaching on top. The area comes under the wildlife area so the forest department does not allow staying at Kudremukh. The most awaited hot dinner will be served once you reach base camp along with the most awaited campfire!

DAY 2

Early morning after the sunrise and breakfast we will spend some time at the Somavati water stream passing near our base camp which joins Bhadra River which further combines with Tungabhadra a major tributary of the river Krishna. It is an ideal time to see the coffee farms as you walk on the jeep trail towards the Get Beyond Limits bus. On our return journey will cross different types of plantation witnessing mountains of different shapes and sizes. The drop off points will be the same as the pick up points. 'Kudremukh ka tempo high hai and so shall be yours'.
