10 TREKS WHICH DEFINE KARNATAKA AS THE LORD OF MONSOONS



With the ongoing awakening monsoons, it is one of the best times to be on mountains if you have some fondness towards the beautiful shapes of clouds or the chance to actually pass through them or get wet under a waterfall in its most virgin states or seeing the forests and meadows celebrate life with greenery in their full forms. With our experience in the Western Ghats and seeing the joy or the look of satisfaction on people's faces during some treks compels us to create a hand picked list of treks which will surely change the way you look at the rain and are sure to give you lifelong memories!

Please note the treks are in no particular order, all the treks mentioned have their own charm to them. No 2 mountains are the same. 

1. KUDREMUKH TREK
Kudremukh National Park that can make anyone forget the city and live here. Kudremukh being the 03rd highest peak in Karnataka, it is challenging at the same time. An ideal place if you love nature and can't resist being a tramp in the wild. The most refreshing part of the trek is while walking through the open meadows on the way to the peak. In true sense, you will float with the clouds and traverse through beautiful hills. To add to that, the setting is in abundance of nature; clouds floating by as you touch the peak. There are numerous streams you will cross on the way. The whole trail passes through the rain forests and meadows.

2. BAVIKONDA & KILCHIKIA PEAKS RIDGE TREK
The most beautiful and interesting part of Bavikonda Kilchikia is that most of the trekking is done amidst the open face of the mountains. Also, the gradual beautiful ridge towards the peaks makes it one of the most comfortable trekking destination with rewarding views from Bangalore. On the side, you will see farms, popularly known for step farming or terrace farming alongside the coffee plantations and Arecanut plantations. Many times you would not be able to see the plateau or the mountains as you would find them hidden behind the overlying clouds. This is the beauty of Bavikonda during monsoons.

3. KOPATTY COORG KERALA TREK WITH DUBARE WATER ACTIVITIES
It is one of the weekend treks near Bangalore where a trekking passionate person will experience euphoria for the trail which comprises of the village life, jeep trails, dense jungles, water streams and outspread meadows.  It is a common scene to spot Elephants in the dense jungle trails of Coorg. The more you discover Coorg, the more you fall for this place. There is a beautiful river that flows very close to our homestay in Coorg and the best place to watch the sunrise on the banks of the river.

4. KODACHADRI TREK
Located in Mookambika national park it is home to many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna. The scenic beauty is, of course, a driving factor. On the way to the peak, you get splashed by the water at Hidlumane Falls. This trek has everything from its perfect dense forest to a high waterfall, the meadows spreading everywhere. A sea of clouds is captured by the eyes forever from the peak. A national heritage site of the state of the Karnataka, the Kodachadri Trek should be on the top of every trekkers list.

5. TADIANDAMOL COORG TREK
Tadiandamol is considered the highest peak in Coorg at an altitude of 5735 ft. The eyes can feast on a spectacular view of the coffee farms that are spread in all direction. Specially in the monsoons, one can occasionally spot a vast blanket of beautiful white flowers along some portions of the varied trail. Apart from this, monsoons offer a respite from the city heat as mountain takes up a green cover and the sight in the monsoons is a treat to the eyes. Perfect getaway for those who are just bit by an adventure bug, worry not, this trek is surely for you.

6. GALIBEEDU PEAK COORG TREK
This is one of the lesser known weekend treks around Bangalore where you experience the blissfulness of Coorgi lifestyle. Interacting with the locals of the Galibeedu region gives you an insight into the history of the mountains which was believed to be used by the rulers of Kodagu Kingdom. Nestled in the Western Ghats is full of valleys and small streams. On reaching the peak it offers panoramic views in the monsoon. The hills are covered in lush greens and make for an unforgettable trip.

7. KOTTE BETTA COORG TREK
Kotte betta is the third highest peak in Coorg after Tadiandamol and Brahmagiri. The name of the hill derived from the language Kannada, meaning Fort Hill. The hills display a spectacular beauty of the Western Ghats and cool climate during monsoons makes for an escape from the city. It is one of the treks which has a gradual trail. This trails then goes via the heart of coffee estates which is very rare to find on other treks. This place is easily reached from Bangalore, just 282 km away makes for an amazing gateway in the monsoon and it is a dream trek in the rains. It is one of the least trodden trekking trails with splendid views.

8. NISHANI MOTTE WILDLIFE CIRCUIT TREK
Nishani Motte comes under the Scotland of India aka Coorg. The trail is part of Tala Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary region of Karnataka and is a home to many wildlife animals and thousands of plant species. An ideal trek for both novice and proficient trekkers. The most beautiful part of Nishani Trek is Ridge Walk on the sides of the dense forest. Walking on the ridge, to the right one can witness the beautiful lands and forests of Kerala! With the advent of monsoons, Coorg puts on its most beautiful display. And it's a delight to see the clouds hovering over the valley, one cannot afford to miss this beautiful trek during monsoon season.

9. TAVOOR HILLS COORG - RIDGE WALK TREK
The peak offers the best of the scenic view of Coorg. The trail in the Tavoor Hills is also known as Dumchi Gudde by the locals. The trail in the Tavoor Hill Peak, one can also see the beautiful Kopatty Hill Range. This place is a haven for photographers and adventure enthusiasts. One can spend the whole day admiring the astounding beauty amidst mother nature.

10. COORG-KERALA TREK
This is not a regular trek, it is a passage from Coorg, Karnataka into Kerala.  Best views come after the hardest climbs and this trek involves a challenging 23 km trail through wildlife sanctuaries and reserve forests in one stretch, leading us into God’s own country Kerala. During monsoon, you will be surrounded by the enchanting views of the forest trails and a chance to talk to the clouds.
